About Rich (aka, One Lucky Fan)

Rich is of the firm belief that at every game you attend, something will happen that you have never seen before. Hence, his lifelong obsession with viewing sports live and in person.

Since 1994, he has traveled the country visiting stadiums and arenas, both as part of other trips and as journeys unto themselves.

In that time, he attended a home game for 82 out of the 123 pro sports franchises in the four major U.S. leagues – MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL. During the writing of One Lucky Fan, he embarked on a two-month, all-out sprint to visit the 41 teams he had not yet seen.

After graduating from LIU/C.W. Post and Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism, Rich began his career at Newsday in 1999 as a high school sports reporter, before taking a diversion into New York City politics as a campaign manager. But the call of the newsroom lured him back to journalism, and he landed at the newspaper he grew up reading, the New York Daily News. He worked his way up to Executive Editor, but left The News in December 2016 and began crafting the book he always dreamed of writing.

Rich lives and works in New York City with one-eyed hobo pup Alfie, and his sushi-loving kitty brother Boo.

He dreams of someday retiring to Italy, where he will probably get bored and decide he wants to visit every team in Serie A.
