Frequently Asked Questions

What inspired you to do this?

I took a couple of road trips in college with friends to visit baseball stadiums. The first covered the Midwest, the second (Trip II, naturally) went all the way cross-country. From there, the idea of visiting a new stadium or arena anywhere I traveled was born. Thats the One Lucky Fan Origin Story.

How long did it take?

Nearly 25 years for all 123 (yes, I know it’s 124 now with the Seattle Kraken — I’m getting to them!). But the book culminates in my chase to track down the final 41 over a 53-day span! It’s a non-stop, 25,000-mile whirlwind of airports, car rental centers, train stations, hotels, cheap meals, and of course stadiums and arenas! You’ll be glad it was me doing the schlepping and not you!

What is the book about?

The book is a memoir and travelogue detailing my experiences attending home games for every MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL team. Along the way I break down what it means to be a fan, how that can change across the years, what unites and divides fans, and what it means to give your entire fandom to different kinds of teams (for example, in New York, Yankees & Mets fans approach and regard their teams very differently!

Who is the target audience?

You, I hope! But any sports fan, long-suffering partner of a sports fan, avid traveler, or appreciator of nostalgia & Americana will see themselves in this tale.

Where can I purchase it?
Are there stadium reviews included?

You betcha! I rank every MLB park worst to best (IMHO), and mention the best & worst of all the other sports. I’m not shy with my opinions either!
